More than 30 animals seized, shelter requests donations


SARATOGA — A Wood County humane officer seized 29 dogs and two cats from a Wisconsin Rapids-area breeder today.

The dogs, which were taken to the South Wood County Humane Society, 90 Pepper Ave., for evaluation, included dachshunds, pugs, shelties, Maltese, and Yorkshire terriers. Many were puppies.

Five animals were pregnant, with some close to giving birth. The two cats were Persians.

Phil Hartley, the shelter’s executive director, said the animals are not currently available to the public, but he requested donations for the animals’ care, including wet dog food, due to the large number of puppies..." More
