Woman Gets Restricted Probation in Animal Hoarding Case

A woman charged with felony child abuse and 13 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty in one of the worst cases that the Dade Sheriff has seen won't go to jail but does have several restrictions.

According to the Dade County Court Clerk, Kim Atchley plead guilty on October 19th to the charges. She was sentenced to a total of 11 years, but all of it may be served on probation.

Back in August, authorities got a tip and went to her house on Page Avenue. They found filthy, moldy water outside and not much better on the inside. Animal Rescue workers came in and took the dogs who had matted hair.

One of the workers believed Atchley had good intentions but just lost control.

As part of her plea agreement, Atchley must comply with all Department of Family and Children's Services requirements including checking on the children and the home.

She also cannot posses alcohol or tobacco..."
