Can You Love Your Pets to Death?

Animal hoarding is about good people trying to do the right thing. But sometimes their compassion gets completely out of control. We followed the Michigan Humane Society to several local homes where people were suspected of hoarding animals.

Photographer John Ciolino watched as the Humane Society intervened and tried to help the animals and the people who hoard them.

"Some people who really have a serious psychological problem may need to go to behavioral therapy," says Action News anchor and reporter Carolyn Clifford. "They get really defensive, and they don't want you to see what's going on behind closed doors," she says.

We also spoke with a psychologist who explains why people do this - and why many don’t see it as a problem.
