Myrtle Beach, SC - On Tuesday, an Horry County judge granted the 15th Circuit Solicitor's office permission to remove hundreds of cats from a warehouse on Forestbrook Road in Myrtle Beach. The court ordered seizure comes just days after animal right group, PETA, released undercover video inside the facility. The county will provide a temporary shelter for the cats at the old EMS building in Socastee.
"We believe there are approximate 200-250 cats in the sanctuary. Those animals were removed by animal care officers, and then transported to a holding facility," said Lisa Bourcier, Horry County spokesperson.
The lawyer for Elizabeth Owen, the woman who operates the Sacred Vision Sanctuary, asked the judge to visit the facility before he made his final decision. However Judge Mayer said after reviewing evidence he would not feel comfortable allowing the animals to remain in Owen's care.
Upon a medical review, vets will decide whether or not any of the animals should be euthanized. The county said caring for the cats could be costly..." More & video
