Dozens of cats seized from Mira Mesa home

 — County animal control officers seized 80 malnourished cats Monday from a home in Mira Mesa where conditions were described as deplorable.
When they arrived at the house near Camino Ruiz and Flanders Drive, they found overflowing litter boxes, empty food bowls and one dead cat, animal control Lt. Dan DeSousa said.
Four of the animals seized have had to be euthanized, DeSousa said. Of the remaining cats, many have pneumonia, ear mites, ring worm and bacterial infections, and all have been exposed to feline leukemia and feline distemper, he said.
The 57-year-old woman who lives at the home alone rescues the cats but is unable to take care of them, he said.
The department has been to her home several times over the past two years, but conditions inside the house have deteriorated, DeSousa said. From the outside, the home was immaculate, he said..."  More
