FRANKLIN COUNTY, KY. (WDRB) -- Franklin County Humane Society workers find puppies with umbilical cords still attached while other dogs are covered in feces. This is just the latest in a rash of animal hoarding that are maxing out shelters.
Many of the rescued dogs were seized earlier this week, but shelter workers along with animal control went back to the home on East Main St on Friday. The owner surrendered nine more dogs. Some were trembling with shyness, while others had such boundless energy, one dog managed to slip through several hands before he was cornered. Their roller coaster temperament is understandable.
"There was a lot of feces on the floor," says Franklin County Humane Society Director Angie Stewart. She quietly described the conditions the dogs were found in. "The house was not clean at all."
30 dogs, a mix of Shih Tzu and Maltese breeds, were seized from a home on East Main Street after neighbors complained the owner was hoarding them. One puppy was dead but the siblings were holding on. "Their umbilical cords, they were still attached. That's how young they were," says Stewart. She couldn't believe how matted the dogs were in their own feces. "Like someone pulling your hair. It's so tight. It's stretching their skin."..." More & video
