An Omaha, Neb., man and Fremont couple are facing prison for separate animal cruelty crimes. Daniel and Ellyn Newcomer are charged with 13 counts of animal cruelty after dogs and a pot-bellied pig were found in their Fremont home and storage unit, according to the Omaha World HeraldMetrelle Dailey was sentenced to prison for throwing his pet dog out the window.
More on each case:
Clem Rohde, director of the Dodge County Humane Society, told the World Herald that police removed nine dogs, three cats and a pig from the Newcomer's Fremont home in December. The home was later condemned and destroyed.
* Authorities suspected the Newcomers were hoarding additional animals. They found additional dogs this week after the owner of Victory Storage contacted police about the couple's storage unit. Police found more dogs inside the unit, though they declined to name how many.
* The Newcomers are out on $2,500 bail after being charged with 11 misdemeanors and two felonies in the December animal hoarding case. Authorities are mulling additional charges related to the animals kept in the storage unit.
Humane Society officials said the dogs found in Newcomers' storage unit were in bad condition. "Had (the storage garage owner) not found these dogs, they would have died," Rohde told the World Herald.
* A Douglas County judge sentenced Dailey, 28, to prison after he threw his rat terrier out the window during a fight with his girlfriend, according to the Associated Press. The dog later died.
