Dozens of Cats Removed in Animal Hoarding Situation

Lindsay Kus

A animal hoarding case is developing out of eastern Kent County after numerous cats were discovered at a home in the Ada area Wednesday.

This afternoon the Humane Society of West Michigan (HSWMI) rescued 47 cats and kittens from a home on the Ada Lowell area, bringing them to the shelter.  Most of the animals appear in good condition, but have some respiratory issues.

Most of them were discovered in a bedroom.

The owner of the home called the shelter after discovering his adult daughter had been hoarding the cats at their home. She recently moved out,  leaving the animals behind.

"When she did moved out and he opened the door and found 27 cats in there, he knew immediately that was access so he called us right away which is the right thing to do," said Nicole Cook, with the Humane Society. "That's typical with hoarding, that the person doing it doesn't recognize it. So we commend him for his efforts and doing the right thing."..."  More
